After obtaining a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Neuchâtel, with a business management option, he was active in controlling at Carrefour in Switzerland, as well as in treasury management, financial risk management and taxation at the Philip Morris Group. He then joined the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to set up cash and financial risk management, and then head the accounting and financial reporting unit to donor governments. He was then assigned to the Finance and Administration Directorate.

After twelve years in this position, he took over the management of the ICRC Pension Fund, of which he was previously a member of the Council for 15 years, and then obtained a federal patent in this area. Now a director of two companies, he also sits on investment committees.
